Rebekah Brooks: A Profile Of How The Budding Teenage Journalist Rose To Become Powerful Media Mogul Click the link below to SUBSCRIBE to the ‘News of the World Phone Hacking’ YouTube channel @ www.youtube.com For upto date news on the hacking scandal, follow me on Twitter @ twitter.com Rebekah Brooks enjoyed a stellar rise from budding teenage journalist to become arguably the most powerful woman in the British media. At the age of 32, she emerged as the country’s youngest national newspaper editor when Rupert Murdoch appointed her to the helm at the News Of The World (NOTW) in 2000. Just 10 years earlier, having studied at the Sorbonne in Paris and working on a magazine in the city, she got a job answering the phones at The Post in Warrington. When that paper folded she talked her way into a similar job at the NOTW and quickly climbed the ranks. As NOTW editor she famously led a campaign for “Sarah’s Law” – named after murdered eight-year-old Sarah Payne. She pressed on with “naming and shaming” paedophiles in the paper, dismissing concerns that she might inspire vigilante action. Flame-haired, twice-married Mrs Brooks graduated to become the first female editor of The Sun in 2003, and Andy Coulson took her place at the NOTW. In the same year she admitted to a Commons Select Committee on Culture in March 2003 that journalists had paid police for information. In 2005 she was arrested — but not charged — over claims she assaulted her first husband, the actor Ross Kemp

Click the link below to SUBSCRIBE to the ‘News of the World Phone Hacking’ YouTube channel @ www.youtube.com For upto date news on the hacking scandal, follow me on Twitter @ twitter.com Joining the respected Stephen Dixon was David Wooding, News of the World’s now ex-political editor & the Peoples political editor Nigel Nelson. The final edition of the News Of The World, which was 72 pages long with a 48-page pullout, had a print run of five million with an anticipation of huge demand. In a full-page editorial on page three, the paper covered its history and what it set out to achieve. While highlighting its triumphs, it also included an apology for hacking phones, telling readers: “We praised high standards, we demanded high standards. But, as we are now only too painfully aware, for a period of a few years up to 2006 some who worked for us, or in our name, fell shamefully short of those standards. Quite simply, we lost our way. Phones were hacked, and for that this newspaper is truly sorry.” Too little, too late. In a pathetic attempt to appease the likes of OFCOM for the up & coming legal battle over the BSkyB takeover, the editorial continued: “There is no justification for this appalling wrongdoing. No justification for the pain caused to victims, nor for the deep stain it has left on a great history. Yet when this outrage has been atoned, we hope history will eventually judge us on all
