Jon Stewart Bigger Than Jesus? (Stephen Colbert & Ayaan Hirsi Ali discuss rationality & religion)
When Ayaan Hirsi Ali appeared on “The Colbert Report” last week, she not only declared the primacy of Jon Stewart over Jesus with which I titled this video, but she also had a serious discussion about her preference for the Enlightenment values of John Locke and John Stuart Mill over religion (with which I agree) and her belief in judging some religions better than others (with which I disagree) as I show in this video. The clips of Stephen Colbert’s interview with Ayaan Hirsi Ali come from the June 1, 2010, interview available on the Comedy Central webpage at tinyurl.com The clip of Sam Harris talking at the 2010 TED conference comes from the March 22, 2010 YouTube video on the TedtalksDirector YouTube channel at www.youtube.com The image of my YouTube playlist titled “Debunking America-is-a-Christian-nation myth” comes from the YouTube playlist page at www.youtube.com The image of my December 2006 YouTube video titled “Saddam Shows Worst of Judeo-Christian-Islamic Tradition?” comes from the YouTube video player page at www.youtube.com The image of my April 2010 YouTube video titled “Fox News Likes Spanking?” comes from the YouTube video player page at www.youtube.com

I know I am off topic but she is beautiful!
I completely agree that religious scrutinity should be upheld when these certain claims are attempted to be imposed in politics, or outside of personal faith; there is no point for either. Now on Ali’s comment, i think what she meant by judging one faith over another, is the faiths in context of what we see today. Christianity has been revised, modernized, and therefore, less fanatical in most cases, or at least compared to islam which has not been reformed, and teaches very dangerous dogma.
Koran burning Pastor Terry Jones and Ayaan Hirsi Ali are the same idiotic bigots. They are both selfish and provocative, with the sole aim of offending religious and ethnic groups. They both show no utter regard for religious tolerance and religious freedom. There extreme stances and message of hate can only point to conflict. They play at peoples fears and ignorance and achieve nothing. Both need to get out more.
You’re basically agreeing with Hirsi Ali. What you are arguing is what she has written and argued in past debates/interviews. You’re taking her casual use of the word “one” far to literally and taking it out of context. She does not mean that we should judge “one” religion superior to the others. She’s advocating and honest critique of the religions (as you are), with the ability to comfortably state that some ideas are better than others.
I actually partially agree with Hirso Ali.
I’m absolutely with the narrator on the fact that all religions should be seen fairly. However, I think having your own opinion and preferring one belief than another shows how you actually think through and stand for yourself rather than being fed another person or group’s opinion that one is good and one is not.
thanks for thinking!
It is, I suspect, more than a coincidence that those who are most insistent on the need for Islamic Enlightenment are the voices crying loudest for war….
gross
@DanOhio777 I tried to post a link directly to the source I’m citing, but youtube won’t let me. The article is called, “The Millennials: Confident. Connected. Open to change.” Your statement sounds like every older generation talking about ‘these kids today…’ probably going back to the Stone Age. By the way, another study shows that spanking can make people more prone to ‘kinky’ sexual behavior- such as sexual sadists/masochists.
@DanOhio777 Actually, you’re completely wrong. Just look at the studies done by the Pew Research Center on the Millenial Generation (the gen you’re maligning). The study says they get along BETTER with their parents, AND respect their elders MORE. They’re also the most educated, and the least religious- I do sit back, and take comfort in this new generation. They’re pretty great.
We have an entire generation raised sans spanking. Now they have no self control, no respect of elders, no knowledge of bounds, and no discrimination of right vs wrong. You liberals can sit back and take great pride in a generation of undisciplined children and the unravelling it has brought to this country’s moral and social fiber. Congrats idiot!
Buddhism is the best religion as it does no harm. Then Hinduism.
Christianity , Islam and Judeaism have all been invoked to cause atrocities.
Atheists are better people than religious people generally.
you don’t think one religion can be better than another but some ideas are better than others? hmm
EVERYONE WATCH MY VIDEOS ON MY CHANNEL EXPOSING AYYAN HESI ALI
@koukicrisp do people laugh when you talk?
@MrDustock You attack religion, I, hypothetically attack race. Pot calling the kettle black scenario to me. Hypocrisy is all I wanted to show, I have. I no longer wish to spend time on you, kid. I am arguing in circles and your unintelligent claims of religious hatred being sanctified vs. racial hate being immoral, bores me. See, I checked the other guys statement and sent an apology, you have yet to prove why I should respect your opinion or acknowledge any presence of intelligence. DISMISSED.
@koukicrisp Thank you. Look, I have Muslim friends, know of great Muslim people. I hate Islamophobia. My original point was this: what is the point of having a belief system that is in all probability not true and instills violence among certain people?
@pixi6666 Ok, upon a re-read after your explanation, I’ll give you that your statement was fair. But I stand beside my statement that VERY FEW Muslims have ever harmed anyone, and not all, such as my wife has ever planned to. I have friends from Tunisia, Bosna, Turkiye, all incredible, proud Muslim people and I am tired of hearing them get verbally slayed by peoples ignorance. Just so happened it wasn’t yours this time.
@koukicrisp but it is skin color only… the PHILOSOPHY of hitler was for killing people. and is to attack that philosophy racist too? millions believed it… belief does not=respect
the difference is I attacked a verse from the Quran… I attacked a belief. and because people believe that does not mean I have to respect it…
funnny so why are you talking about the quran verse? you want to go on a tangent on race?
@pixi6666 Oh no, I’m not even Muslim. grew up Chrisitan and am somewhat in between. But to make a blanket statement as you have is offensive! Not to me, but to the millions of innocent believers who get slandered everyday!
@MrDustock Yes, I do. You are desperately trying to make your statement make moral sense but it doesn’t. Yes, race is skin color. What happened when Columbus came to America? What about the salve trade, because of pigment. Don’t try to DRASTICALLY downplay the effects of color to make an argument, makes yourself looks desperate for a rebuttal to an educated man such as myself! Didn’t Hitler kill over 4 million to make the perfect race? It’s skin color only? yeah, and pigs fly.
I ggive you a passage in the Quran then you said it dint exist… then I proved it did.
I was only talking about the Ideology… but you think the Quran is a race…
@koukicrisp Don’t quote me out of context. My point was that Jainism, a religion that prohibits killing of any kind, even accidentally stepping on a beetle, has had less of a detrimental effect on society than Islam. Can we at least agree on that?
@koukicrisp race has to do with melanin.. Islam is a belief do you really think your comparison works?
They change all the time? I thought Muhammad was the messenger and the beliefs should never change… the quran is his words…
@koukicrisp The point being this: all religions are inconsistent fun bags of nonsense. Islam just happens to be an inconsistent fun bag of nonsense that causes some people to do terrible things. Not to single out Islam though, Christians killed thousands during the inquisition, Zionist extremist have killed Palestinians for 1500 years. But dude: Chill out.
