What are the advantages and disadvantages of freedom of the press?

The freedom of the press will insure our own freedoms. However, our press is no longer free as it is monopolized by big money and you can certainly see this freedom sucked away on so much tv news. The honesty in our newspapers is beginning to fail too.
Here’s one example. This is about the military video of an American crew happily readying to kill people in the street. We watch as they circle and kill the men including two reuters journalists. A van comes into view and the helicopter crew shoot at it too as they try to get the wounded to hospital even though there are two children in the passenger seat of the van clearly in view. The crew thinks its ‘their fault’ (the rescuers) for bringing the children!
But, this is not news any more and seems to be completely put out of the way. This seems to be a gagging of the media!
Of course, all the news is smothered by the continuous flow of oil and news from the gulf.
The advantages are that the government has no right to force you, against your volition, to think a certain way. Overall, it’s beautiful freedom that prevails in the end!
The very miniscule disadvantage is that it can increase the feasibility of crime and hatred.
some restrictions must be made in the media to protect those who are more powerful, the mighty are those who if they happen to fall will bring many down with them, their employees, their allies, their rivals, whatever, the thing is someone else will also get hurt. On the other hand somethings must not be revealed for the press have somewhat sometimes of a slight knowledge of something and publish it causing many to form their own ideas that are very different from others that leads to a huge conflict that may effects the countries it self politically and economically.
