Freedom of Press Act will Become Law
Obama is ready to sign on Daniel Pearl freedom of press law act after having been adopted unanimously by the Senate last week. After identifying JTA.org, the law “mandates the Department of State, the country in which it finds violations of press freedom, if the authorities of participating countries to facilitate or tolerate violations have taken and to report of actions of this government to ensure security and preserve the independence of the media and ensure the prosecution of those who kill or attack journalists. “
Unfortunately it is too late, Daniel Pearl who was beheaded by Islamic extremists in 2001 to assist in the investigation, the networks of al-Qaida financial abroad. But his father, mother, wife and son, born three months after Pearl was murdered.
“Violations of freedom of press in the world now know that they are followed closely, the” father of Daniel Pearl, Judea, said before leaving Los Angeles to Washington. “The fight is something that our son Danny his whole life.”
In a statement from White House, Obama said last year was a bad year for press freedom due to the fact that more media workers were killed last year than any year in recent history. ”
“This year, as in other years, nearly three out of four journalists killed were local news-gatherers who were murdered in their own countries .”
Daniel Pearl Freedom of the Press Act aims to make it safer for the media to gather and report the truth.
“In many parts of the world, freedom of press is the last – or only – protection against the erosion of full human rights,” said Senator Christopher Dodd. U.S. Representative Adam helped draft vessel Law for by Congress.
